Martin Luther and the Power of the Image & the Word

Capitalizing on Gutenberg’s revolutionary invention of movable type the Reformation message of Martin Luther also saw the great potential of the image. The lecture will focus on amazing artists, such as Albrecht Dürer and Lucas Cranach, both masters of the print, who greatly facilitated the launch of the reform movement. Luther’s home town of Wittenberg suddenly became a hyper active center that changed much of Europe. Image and the Word very much made the northern Renaissance a reality.
