Method & Metaphor:
Selected Works from the Seena and Arnold Davis
Old Masters Collection

September 10 – November 1, 2006

Gallery Talk, and Reception

Arnold and Seena Davis, long-time residents of Scarsdale, NY, have been collecting Old Master drawings and paintings since the 1960s, when these works were not in fashion, especially amongst American collectors. Their vision has taken them well beyond the boundaries of their cultural and religious backgrounds, art world fashions, and even personal taste.

This exhibition attempts to reflect the wide range of the Davis Collection by including carefully selected religious and secular works; portraits, landscapes, and other subjects; paintings, drawings and objects. The focus of the exhibition is on 15th and 16th century European Old Masters. Highlights from this exceptional collection include works by van der Weyden, Carracci, Rubens, Joos van Cleve, Francesco Maffei, and others.
