The past is present at OSilas Gallery this fall!

Throughout 2014, Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville have been celebrating their 350thAnniversary. To recognize this momentous point in time, OSilas Gallery will host an exhibition,Legacies, Landmarks & Achievements: Celebrating 350 Years – Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Bronxville,curated by Mike Fix, in partnership with Eastchester’s 350th Anniversary Committee.

The exhibition allows visitors to immerse themselves in local history and discover the many individuals and industries that left their legacies here. Over 30 local historical figures from the past 350 years will be highlighted through photos, paintings, personal artifacts and biographical stories. The exhibition will include a section entitled “Tuckahoe Marble Legacies and Landmarks” that will focus on 19thCentury personalities who led the development of the marble industry in Eastchester and the legacy marble buildings, monuments, and works of art that stand today in Eastchester, New York, and cities traversing the Atlantic Coast.  Current color photographs of surviving buildings and monuments by local photographer Lawrence Lee are contrasted with age-old lithographs, drawings, and photographs of those same subjects. Featured will be a bust of John Marshall, on loan from the Boston Athenæum, carved by artist John Frazee out of marble from these very quarries.

Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday:12-5pm; Thursday: 12-7pm;
Saturday & Sunday: 2-5pm. Local groups and schools are always welcome. To arrange a group visit, please call (914) 337-9300, x2262.
